Handling reflights
How to handle reflights
with F3Jscore.exe
This document
describes the methods in which the different reflight methods can be used in
the F3Jscore program.
In the current
(2004) regulations for the F3J competitions there are 3 ways of handling a
reflight for a pilot. These 3 ways are (in order of preferred usage)
1) Collect all pilots that have a reflight, let
them fly together at the end of the round. When there are less then 4 pilots,
the group will be filled up to 4 pilots by randomly choosing pilots.
This option is called the ‘Reflight Lottery group’
(because of the fact that pilots will be added by means of a lottery)
2) Pilots that claim a reflight can make that
reflight in a following slot in the same round. This is only possible when
there is enough space on the startgrid.
This option is called ‘Reflight one pilot’
3) When the above is not possible the whole
group will have a reflight.
This option is called ‘Reflight whole group’
The following scenario is used when using the lottery group option. This procedure must possibly be done for each round:
Procedure on the
field
At the contest director (CD) desk there are forms available
(c:\program files\F3Jscore\doc/F3J-LotteryForm.doc).
When the situation occurs that one or more pilots claim a reflight, the CD
writes down the pilots startnr and name on that form. And
marks the pilot as being one that claimed a reflight. This is important for a correct score
calculation.
At the end of the round, the CD checks how many pilots claimed a reflight, if
there are less then 4 pilots in the reflight (lottery group) then the CD may
use any trick to randomly select pilots and add these pilots to the list. It’s
advisable to select pilots that not conflict with frequenties or teams.
After the reflight the scores are filled in on the form and the form is given to the score-processing people.
At the score
processing
The score processing for this lottery group reflight is relative simple. Take the following steps from within F3Jscore.exe
1) Take care you selected the correct round , the slot is not important
2) Choose the menu option ‘Actions-> Reflight lottery’
3) In
the next menu, use the supplied form to select the pilots in the reflight.
Before adding the pilot, make sure you check (or uncheck) the ‘This pilot
claimed the reflight’ check button. Best is to check this checkbox, then add
all pilots that claimed the reflight. Then uncheck this box and add the other
pilots.
If you make a mistake, simply remove the pilot and add it again with the
correct option for that pilot.
Because this checkbox is having a big impact on the score calculation (it marks
which score to use for the pilot), make sure it is correct for all pilots
before clicking OK.

4) When clicking OK, a message box will appear. Please select YES.

5) The
layout of the main screen will change slightly. On the right-top of the grid
you will see in red ‘ view mode : Lottery group’ . This to make clear you are looking at a special view. Also
you will see the pilots you just entered in the screen.
Now Enter the scores as normal using the information from the form given by the
CD
6) When
finished with entering this score, double click on the red text (Lottery
Instead of double clicking the red text , you can also
use ‘Options->View Lottery group’. This toggles between these two modes.
When you are in the normal view, and want to check the lottery group, you can
use the ‘Options->View Lottery group’ to switch back and forth.
If the options is not enabled, there is no lottery group for the selected
round.
Technical information
· The lottery group is marked in the database as being slot ‘-1’
· For the pilots that have claimed the reflight, only the score of the reflight group will count.
· For the other pilots the best score off there two flights will count.
A reflight for one pilot is mostly done by placing the pilot that has a reflight on a free start position in the same round.
This will not work when:
· The current slot is the last slot
· The coming slots have got no spare start position available.
·
There is a frequency (or helper team) conflict.
Be warned:
This possible frequency and/or helper team conflict has to be checked manually.
Sometimes it’s smart to not think about the helpers and allow the pilot to
change it’s frequency for this time only.
If any of the above is true, you will have to use option 3, that will be discussed later.
If it’s possible to place the pilot in a next slot, you can use the following steps in F3Jscore.exe
· Select the round/slot/position where the pilot to replace is located.
· use Actions->Reflight One Pilot to show the dialog below.

·
In the ‘Pilot 2’ part of the dialog, select the
slot and start position of the available location. If the pilot name shows
‘----‘ it means it’s a free position.
· Press the ‘replace Pilot’ button. The selected pilot will now be moved to the new location.
The options that can be seen in the dialog have the following meaning.
|
Remove pilot from round |
When this option is selected, the ‘Pilot 2’ section will be turned off. When the ‘replace pilots’ button is pressed the selected pilot will be removed from the current round. Be careful with this.!! |
|
Reset Normalized score to zero |
If the selected pilot has already got a score, it will be set to 0. He will get new points anyway…. |
|
Update remark field to reflect changes |
When set, the remark field of the pilot will show some text that will appear on the score list. This makes clear that the pilot had a reflight. |
In the situation where a whole group (slot) is having a reflight it is most important to know which pilot(s) claimed the reflight. For this pilot only the score of the reflight will count. For the other pilots the best normalized score (the score in 1000%) will count for the score list.
Follow the procedure below to reflight a whole group.
In F3Jscore.exe
· Select the round/slot that has the reflight.
· Take care all scores of that round/slot has been entered.
·
Use Action->Reflight Whole

·
Select the pilot that claimed the reflight and
the ‘Mark claim for selected pilot’ button. You will then see that the
ReflightClaimed column changes from 0 to 1.
·
Repeat the above step for the pilots that
claimed the reflight.
·
After pressing OK, you will get a blanco
round/slot, and the reflight count (see image below) is increased by one. (0 is
no reflights , 1 means reflight one etc)

· Now the normal procedure for entering scores can be used.
Viewing reflights
Normally the program will only show the scores for the last reflight , but when you switch on the Option ‘View reflights’ (under menu item ‘Options’) you can use the Reflight counter to page trough the reflights.
Some things to keep
in mind
·
When you create a reflight, it automatically
means that there will be some discussion when you print out the scores. This is
mostly because there is one ‘1000’ extra, and pilots do not understand what
happens when a reflight was flown.
·
For the pilots that didn’t claim the reflight,
the highest normalized score will be used. This can be confusing.
Reflight 0:
Pilot A: has got 9.50 min, 100 pts and
will get the 1000
Pilot B: has got 9:00 min, 100 pts and
will have 940
Pilot C: has got 4.55 min, 100 pts and
will have 500 and claimed the RF
Reflight 1:
Pilot A: has got 3:00 min, 100 pts and
will get the 400
Pilot B: has got 5:00 min, 100 pts and
will have 1000
Pilot C: has got 4.55 min, 100 pts and
will have 955
This will have the following result on the score list:
Pilot A: 1000pts
Pilot B: 1000pts (although the flight time is less then in RF0!!)
Pilot C: 955pts, this pilot claimed
the reflight, so only this score will count.
The Round-Score
When the round-score is printed you can see which score is
used for a pilot. This is indicated by a
little number next to the slot. In the example below you see slot 3 with a
little 1, this means slot 3, reflight 1. This is the result of a reflight-group
in slot 3.
If a ‘-1’ is displayed, the score is the result of the lotterygroup.
